Yes for sure. Had there been no other fuel efficient vehicles in the market probably GM would have survived. The problem with GM is that they never did R%26amp;D to make fuel efficient engine and only concentrated on powerful engines (For this reason GM had been denied bail out package once in the month of Jan-09). When the likes of Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai are on your door step with state of the art fuel efficient and reliable engines why one should buy from GM? Now a days the common rail diesel engines are twice as fuel efficient as the petrol engines. The new qaudratech diesel engine from fiat's engine division is being used in Swift Desire (Suzuki), Palio (Fiat) and Indica Vista(Tata). These giant car manufacturers in order to survive borrowed engines from rival companies mean while there own R%26amp;D continues which is not a case with GM's.
With higher oil prices, the sales of the bigger cars and SUV's tend to go down.Unfortunately, GM has bigger problems right now then oil prices.
It has an effect on all car manufactures.


If you have more smaller vehicles in your portfolio currently you may sell more than a manufacture that has fewer.
