The price of gas is related to a barrel of oil, why does a quart of oil still cost about the same?

It costs the same today as it did 10-15 years ago to have the oil changed in my car. With the price of a barrel up so high, wouldn't that have affected oil as well as gasoline. I really think we are just taken advantage of at the pump. If the government was that concerned with the impending ';financial doom'; that the news swears we are heading toward, why won't they do anything about the gas prices??

Can you imagine if everyone was only paying $1.50 for gas again......Cut your gas spending in HALF! For me personally that would be $30 a week...$120 a month!

Somebody should be able to do something. The price of gas is related to a barrel of oil, why does a quart of oil still cost about the same?
You're not supposed to notice that. The price of gas is related to a barrel of oil, why does a quart of oil still cost about the same?
Lubricating oil is made from a very heavy and cheaper part of a barrel of oil which is worth less and does not increase in value at anthing near the rate of the lighter part of the barrel.. Also, a good share of the cost of gasoline is due to a shortage of gasoline refining capacity. If there is not a corresponding shortage of lube oil capacity, there you have two good reasons.

Somebody can do something. Take all of the 8-10 mpg SUVs off the road and you will see a dramatic difference when the demand drops like a rock.

The government does not control gasoliine prices. You do.
beats me
Different kind of oil. The oil used for lubricating your engine is closer to Vasoline.
