The price of gas is related to a barrel of oil, why does a quart of oil still cost about the same?

It costs the same today as it did 10-15 years ago to have the oil changed in my car. With the price of a barrel up so high, wouldn't that have affected oil as well as gasoline. I really think we are just taken advantage of at the pump. If the government was that considered with the impending ';financial doom'; that the news swears we are heading toward, why won't they do anything about the gas prices??

Can you imagine if everyone was only paying $1.50 for gas again......Cut your gas spending in HALF! For me personally that would be $30 a week...$120 a month!

Somebody should be able to do something. The price of gas is related to a barrel of oil, why does a quart of oil still cost about the same?
There is no gas tax on oil only sales tax and the bottle is the expensive part since the oil doesn't need to much process.

So thats why oil is still a except able profit margin without the 60% tax markup, with one quart of oil at about 18cents and the packaging at about 22 cents and driving the product to stores at 15 cents each thats a total of about 55 cents per bottle to produce they mark up the product to 95 cents to earn a profit of about 45 cents before the stores get it wholesale price, then it is marked up to retail for about $1.20- $1.50each.

But yes the government is evil for taxing us at least 60% on a commodity. The price of gas is related to a barrel of oil, why does a quart of oil still cost about the same?
The only thing that I can think of is that other countries are running low on oil too. Instead of The US tapping our oil reserve we are going to use up eveyone elses oil. Once they run out thats when the US will a start drilling. Thing that really sucks is that the price of mass transportation went up as well. I dont know where you live but In NY they are raising the price of the trains almost every week.
I believe you are referring to oil that you buy over the counter. Such oil if I'm not mistaken is referred to as 'synthetic' and is not the same type of oil that is used to make gasoline. That oil is natural and synthetic is...synthetic.
