As gas &oil prices go up where exactly does the extra $$ millions go?

who,s pockets recieve the '; shortage $$ ??As gas %26amp;oil prices go up where exactly does the extra $$ millions go?
A good chunk of the gas price is actually taxes that have been imposed by the state and local government. This is why gas can be up to 30 cents cheaper a gallon in New Jersey then it is in CT. (also ever notice how the price of gas drops right before an election?) The gas companies actually make a very small amount of profit on each gallon of gas, even as the prices go up. It is the quantity of gas that is consumed which gives them their profit margins (Hummers, SUVs, Trucks, etc.) Another reason why gas prices have increased is because the nations that are producing the Oil have increased the cost of purchasing it. Much of the oil that the US produces is actually shipped to other nations.

Contrary to what most people believe, the gas companies are actually not the people who are to blame for the current prices. It's actually a combination of government taxes, increased prices from OPEC nations and the cost of refining the quantity of gas needed with a limited amount of refineries. In the 1980s a law was passed which made it extremely difficult if not impossible for a company to open a new refinery, for fears of dangers to the environment. Thus as our gas consumption has increased the number of refineries has not.As gas %26amp;oil prices go up where exactly does the extra $$ millions go?
Who pockets the profit on your IPod?

I understand why price gouging is illegal but there are ways to use less gas just like there are ways to not go out and buy a bunch of new clothes or electronics.

Doesn't a company have a right to make a profit? People aren't dying and I doubt many people are going hungry because of gas.
The benefeceries are too numerous to count ! Each of the governments, ie city, county, state, federal, that puts a tax on gasoline and oil enjoy more income, the refineries, the oil companies, the drillers, and sometimes even the gas station where it leaves the end of the food chain !
The Gasoline Profits: What 'America Forever' %26amp; 'Massive Mann said; most American oil companies are publicly held, and most of them distribute quarterly dividends to hundreds of thousands of shareholders....

The Oil Profits: Canada, Mexico, Nigeria, Venezuela, in that order.... I can't recall who makes up the remaining 20-30%.

Heh.... Just thought of great bumper sticker:

';By driving this huge SUV I'm doing my part to support Canada's welfare state.';

Let the flames begin.... ook!
The money goes to the producers of oil.

Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Mexico, Netherlands, Iran, Nigeria, Russia

Thats who the Oil companies have to buy thier oil from.
Big oil, AND Big Government... Be not fooled by your politician whining about oil co's. making ';record profits'; because government is making record tax collection off that income at the very same time...
I would say it goes to the oil companies. After all Exxon made $1,300.00 profit per second in 2007. Just think how much they are making this year.
