Do you know food prices rose 30-40% while we were distracted with the 'war' and oil prices?

For example Walmart raised the price of eggs from 68 cents to 98 cents in the last 2 years.Do you know food prices rose 30-40% while we were distracted with the 'war' and oil prices?
It seems the price of nearly everything as risen 30-40% or even higher in the past 5-6 years. Unfortunately, most Americans have seen only a 5-10% increase in their income during that time period. Makes sense that ';real income'; has been down each and every year the last 5-6 years. We are working harder and making less money.

Ironically, the Bush Administration, and the Republicans tell you that the economy is doing great because the DOW is higher than ever. They conveniently forget to tell you that only 10% of Americans own 80% of the stock. A quick look at my check book tells me exactly how the economy is doing.Do you know food prices rose 30-40% while we were distracted with the 'war' and oil prices?
Nooo! That sucks.

We need a raise to keep up with it.
What is the source of your information. Not all people shop at Walmart so if they raise their prices that doesn't necessarily increase the CPI. I am dubious of your claim because I don't see food prices rising where I shop - they have stayed consistent.
I'm never ';distracted'; with the war and oil prices. I simply buy food items that are good for me. One might think that fish and fish products are expensive. Not true. Not only is fish good for you but you don't really need that much of it to make a meal. Other than that, we can eat lots of fresh veggies (better than frozen and definitely better than canned), and whole wheat pastas, as well as lots of fruits. Forget the sodas and fruit drinks that are saturated with sugars and other unknowns. If you must drink from a container that you buy from a store, buy water. And drink plenty of it.

The price of cereals is outrageous! So stick to those cereals that have the least amount of sugar. They are cheaper, and most times are far better for you.
yes and it really sucks when you get to the checkout with very few items in your cart and your jaw drops when the final price is rang up.This nation needs to do something to bring food costs down, especially the cost of healthy organic stuff,so that more people can afford it.100 dollars goes like pennies now.It is so frustrating and sad..and I agree with the above poster we all need raises in income!
First the price oil goes up, then the price of everything goes up. Wages catch up eventually, but they are always the last thing that gets higher.
Noticed it but didn't bother me all that much...I do feel bad for those that are working hard and seem to be stuck on a treadmill going no where...but a friend was complaining about it the other day while shopping at Target odd thing was she was b'tching while standing line to buy a $6 coffee at Starbucks. Observed an other family griping about food prices but then went a vehicle that easily had $40,000 worth of accessories.
Well, it takes oil and gasoline to provide transportation of food products to the grocery. Makes sense that vendors would raise prices to compensate for higher fuel bills on that transportation.
Yes, and I find it entirely unfair. The say prices were raised because oil prices went up. However, now that oil prices have gone down no one has dropped their prices to compensate. I personally haven't had a raise in pay in 5 years. I have a hard time dealing with all the price increases and live a hand-to-mouth existence. AND no one seems to be addressing this issue. No media coverage, no talk about it during elections. I think someone needs to take a hand in this. Maybe the USDA?
Basic economics. With the raise of gas, the food will raise. Just wait till the Democratic party gets their way and raises the Federal minimum wage by over two dollars an hour.....thats when the real price hikes will begin. Buisness' don't eat that cost, they pass it on to the consumers.
